The following part of the Durban Poison review is incorrect; I know, because I (Mel Frank) developed this strain. "It's origins date way back to the late 1970's. In South Africa, an ambitious young man named Ed Rosenthal was seeking a new strain. Upon securing a variety of seeds, he returned home to America, and began honing in on inbreeding the lines which possessed his favored growing characteristics." This is the correct version," In 1978 Ed Rosenthal did indeed bring back Durban Poison seeds, but from Amsterdam, not from South Africa.. He gave them to me and I developed Durban Poison. Ed never grew this strain. The seeds were not from a developed cultivar (there was no seed industry then) It was a landrace of very mixed characteristics from mediocre to quite good potency and with a very early harvest time when growing outdoors. After several generations I had two distinct higher potency phenotype lines, the A and B lines. I did give the B line to Skunkman Sam and he further developed it in Amsterdam. The B line had about 10% intersex phenos, and I mistakenly gave the B to Sam causing him to have to rework the strain to eliminate the tendency to put out a few male flowers on about 10% of the females. the rest of the review is pretty good.

I have a legitimate medical diagnosis of anxiety and this strain is one of hundreds of different strains I’ve used personally. If you have anxiety this strain can cause panic attacks the information on the medical uses on this site are completely wrong and misguiding to people trying to learn how to use alternative medicine.

Nice smoking a strain with some cool history behind it. This 100% Sativa does what it is supposed to do which is to pick you up & keep you going. Had me doing things with no heavy body effects. Buds were lighter green with some orange pistils & a nice layer of trichomes. Good stuff here :)

I smoked this for the first time yesterday. I've had an anxiety disorder most my life. Most Kush strains are wonderful for my anxiety so I usually stay with those but my boyfriend encouraged me to try this yestetday. When I did, it hit me quickly and all at once. I immediately got very paranoid and anxious and had to really focus my mind to try and be calm so that I wouldn't get out of control. After chewing black pepper, drinking milk, and a good 30 minutes of time, I finally got rid of the anxiety and extreme paranoia. This strain may be good for others but I will never smoke this again. Not recommended if you have any mental disorders because it will send you on a bad episode. But even if it does affect you badly, know that it's not the end of the world. It will wear off very soon so just relax the best you can.

For the past week i have been smoking durban poison as my wake and bake strain.. (A little background about me i suffer from ptsd, anxiety, bipolar, add). Con: I also noticed the rush from this strain, but there were also Positives: i could focus, tasks i struggle to complete normally were easy. Bexause the pros outweighed the cons for me i decided to use a hybrid strain to take care of the rush and anxiety that i felt was being magnifyed.... I used Strawberry Banana and I pretty instantly felt everything calm. Since that, I've continued using Durban poison and strawberry banana together and it's amazing. So don't completely write this strain off if you suffer from mental disorders.. This is my go to combination (=!

Smoked DP since the 70s when it was a honest pure strain and only available dope in Durban. Now its only available in the outbacks if you make the effort to get there. The city is now saturated with all sorts but none as satisfying as DP. My grows are of the pure unadulterated landrace species which is a pleasure to revert back to when tired of hybrids.

What is Durban Poison?

The effect produced by this strain is sick making a user blown away with a strong surge of energy that immediately gives a huge boost to creativity and happiness so newbies beware. The dense olive green nugs feature a shape typical of sativa with reddish-orange pistils and a true scattering of oversized sticky snowy white crystals. Durban Poison features a clear aroma reminiscent of earthy sweetness with hints of pine while the flavor is sweet and spicy with a slight touch of citrus. Patients use the strain in order to treat severe pain, ADD/ADHD, fatigue, migraines, nausea, and stress.
